HOW TO MAKE MONGOLIAN BEEF IN THE AIR FRYER
- Cut the flank steak into thin slices and coat each piece lightly in cornstarch. Place the steak strips into your air fryer basket and generously spray with cooking oil. Flip each piece and spray the other side.
- Air fry at 370 degrees for 7 minutes.
- While the steak is cooking, combine oyster sauce, brown sugar, honey, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder and ground ginger to a mixing bowl and whisk together.
- Pour the sauce into a medium saucepan and bring to a gentle boil. Once it has thickened, remove from heat and add your cooked steak to the sauce then toss together to coat.
- Serve over rice and sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
HELPFUL NOTES
- When slicing the steak, make sure you have even, thin strips. This will help cook everything to perfection.
- Remember to use cooking oil that has a high smoke point for this recipe, and for all other Air Fryer recipes.
STORAGE AND REHEATING INSTRUCTIONS
If you have any leftovers, you can transfer them to an airtight container and refrigerate them for 2 days. The best way to reheat this Mongolian beef is to microwave it. Air frying it will actually cause the sticky sauce on it to start burning.
FAQS & SUBSTITUTIONS/VARIATIONS:
The cornstarch is actually an important part of the recipe- it is what lends the beef that crispy coating you’re looking for. If you don’t have it, you can use rice flour or even just some regular all purpose flour instead.
Green beans, carrots, mushrooms and bell peppers are all wonderful accompaniments for this Air Fryer Mongolian beef. You can air fry them separately and toss them in the sauce along with the beef strips.
If you don’t have oyster sauce, you can use teriyaki sauce or any other Asian inspired sauce of your choice. If you’ve got none of those too, just a splash of some low sodium soy sauce can do the trick too.
