How to Make a Whole Chicken in the Air Fryer
- Remove the whole chicken from its packaging, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry.
- Place the chicken on a large plate or cutting board and cover it with 1 tablespoon of oil, pepper, and seasoning salt.
- Place the seasoned chicken breast-side down in the center of the air fryer basket. Set aside.
- Quarter the potatoes and add them to a large mixing bowl with the baby carrots and season them with the remaining olive oil, remaining pepper, and salt. Toss to coat.
- Pour the potatoes and carrots into the basket, making sure not to leave any on top of the chicken.
- Air fry at 400°F for 30 minutes, flip the chicken breast-side up, and cook for 20-30 more minutes or until cooked. It should reach an internal temperature of 165°F in the thickest part of the chicken.
Helpful Notes:
- Ensuring there aren’t any veggies on top of the chicken will leave you with delicious golden skin.
- Use the leftovers in other delicious recipes!
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before cutting into it. This will keep it nice and juicy!

FAQS
I recommend using a small or medium-sized chicken, up to about 4.5 lbs. Any larger and it may not fit in your air fryer.
You can stick with the original recipe, or if you want to mix it up, try garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, or basil on your chicken.
Cook the chicken until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. I recommend using a meat thermometer and sticking it into the breast.
