HOW TO MAKE WONTON TACOS IN THE AIR FRYER
- Brown your ground beef on the stovetop, drain the grease and add ½ a packet of taco seasoning and 1 tablespoon of water to the meat. Take off the heat but keep in the pan to stay warm.
- Lay a wonton wrapper out flat and assemble them one at a time by adding about a tablespoon of refried beans, tablespoon of taco meat, tablespoon of shredded cheese and a dollop of salsa in the center of the wrapper, just don’t over stuff. Use a dab of water to wrap and seal the wonton.
- Spray wonton tacos with oil on both sides and place in your air fryer basket without overlapping.
- Air fryer at 390 degrees F for 5-7 minutes, until fully crispy.
HELPFUL NOTES:
- Don’t have taco seasoning? You can easily make it at home with some pantry staples. Alternatively, you can just use any other seasoning or spice mix of your choice to add flavor to the filling.
- To lend some extra cheesy goodness to the wontons, you can add a bit of Mozzarella cheese along with the cheddar.
STORAGE AND REHEATING INSTRUCTIONS:
These Air Fryer wonton tacos can be made in a batch and frozen for later. Just remember to store them in a freezer safe bag or container to prevent freezer burn.
If you have any leftovers, just transfer them to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days. To reheat them, pop them in a preheated Air Fryer for a minute or two, until they crisp up a bit.
FAQS & SUBSTITUTIONS/VARIATIONS:
If you don’t have ground beef, you can use ground chicken, ground turkey or even ground lamb as a substitute.
The best part about this recipe is the fact that the filling for the wonton tacos is completely customizable. You can swap the meat and use mock meat instead if you’re a vegetarian, or even stuff the wontons with scrambled tofu.
You can also stuff the wontons with chopped veggies like carrots, zucchini, bell peppers and scallions.
These wonton tacos can be served with any dipping sauce of your choice. You can stick to the basics like salsa or ranch dressing, or even pair them with some sour cream, salsa Verde or cheese dip.
