Why You’ll Love This Recipe

I know that the last thing you want to be doing is spending hours preparing and cooking dinner for the family, which is why you’ll love how these air fryer pork chops are ready and on the plate within half an hour.

Because this shake and bake method is all contained in a plastic bag, there’s not as much mess as there would be if you did the old ‘dip’ method to coat in egg wash and then breadcrumb mixture (so much mess…).

Most importantly, these are the perfect mix of juicy pork chops with a golden crunchy coating, all enhanced by the delicious flavors that come through the seasoning blend.

These pork chops are perfect if you’re after a delicious dinner in the middle of the week, an easy dinner made in less time, or you’re doing a quick dash to the grocery store and you’re after a great recipe.

You, and the whole family, will love these air fryer shake and bake pork chops (and they’ll quickly become your new favorite dinner).

How to Make Your Own Pork Chops

  • Pour all the dry ingredients (bread crumbs, cornstarch, salt & pepper, paprika, onion powder, parsley, seasoning salt and thyme) into a large freezer bag. Mix together well
  • Add in one tablespoon of olive oil and mix until a sandy texture is created.
  • Coat each pork chop with the remaining olive oil in a bowl or on a plate.
  • Put the pork chops into the bag, one at a time. Mix the mixture around and coat the pork chops.
  • Preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes to 400 degrees F.
  • Put the pork chops into the air fryer for 7 minutes of cooking time, then flip them and cook for another 7 minutes.   Cook until the internal temperature of the pork chops reaches 145 degrees F.
  • Take the pork chops out of the air fryer and let them cool on a cooling rack. (This will prevent the bottom coating of the pork chops from getting soggy as they cool and give you the best results).

Helpful Notes:

  • Make sure to put the pork chops in a single layer so that all parts crisp up – this is the key to super crispy results!
  • If you’re worried about the shake n bake pork chops sticking to the air fryer basket, all you need to do is spray the air fryer basket with some nonstick cooking spray.
  • If you are using especially thick or thin pork chops, you may need to adjust the length of time needed to fully cook them.  Be sure that the internal temperature of the pork chops is at least 145 degrees.  (Or if you don’t have a meat thermometer, poke the pork chops and if the juices run out clear, then the pork is cooked.)
  • If you would prefer to bake these in the oven, preheat the oven to 425 degrees.  Bake the pork chops on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for 20 – 25 minutes.

Variations & Substitutions

  • The homemade shake and bake breading mixture uses simple ingredients which means you can adjust the flavors to your own personal taste.
  • Try different ways to flavor the breadcrumb coating. Some options include:
    • Lemon zest and black pepper for a lemon pepper mix.
    • Cumin, paprika, chili, and garlic powder for a spicy mix.
    • Chinese five spice for a mix that makes your mouth water.
  • You can in a pinch use a premade bread mix, like the shake n’ bake mix. Different brands will offer different textures and flavors (but I still love the homemade version the best).
  • If you’d rather, you can substitute the pork chops for pork tenderloin.

How Long Do You Cook Shake And Bake Pork Chops In The Air Fryer?

Everyone has different ideas of what makes the best pork chops, some prefer the thickness of their pork chops to be a certain way, and some swear by boneless chops rather than bone in… which means cooking times can vary.

The best way to determine if your pork chops are cooked is by using an instant read thermometer.

Thick pork chops are going to need longer to cook, and will take longer for the internal temperature to reach a safe temp, whereas thinner chops could dry out if you cook them for too long.

Whether you prefer thick chops or thin, make sure the temperature reaches 145 degrees to be safe while maintaining a juicy and tender pork chop.

How To Store Leftovers

Store the leftover pork chops in an airtight container and keep them nice and cool in the fridge (keep them toward the back and don’t store them in the door).

They should stay fresh for up to 4 days.

How To Reheat Shake And Bake Pork Chops In The Air Fryer

To reheat the leftover pork chops, simply preheat your air fryer for 3 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Place the pork chops in the basket and cook for 5 – 8 minutes until heated through.

How To Cook Shake And Bake Pork Chops In The Oven

If you would prefer to bake these in the oven, preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Bake the pork chops on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for 20 – 25 minutes.

FAQS

What is the internal cooking temperature of pork chops?

The internal cooking temperature of pork chops should be 145 degrees F.

Can I use a different cut of pork?

Yes, you can use a different cut of pork such as tenderloin. Just remember to adjust the cook time accordingly.

How do you get breading to stick to the pork chops?

Just coat them in olive oil, add them to a bag of shake and bake and shake vigorously. The pork chops will immediately cling to the coating.

What else can I use this shake and bake seasoning on?

Use this seasoning mix on chicken legs, chicken drumsticks, and any other air fryer chicken recipe that you want to create a crispy texture on.

Bone-in VS Boneless: Which is better?

Bone-in pork chops typically contain extra fat and gives richer, juicier flavor to the meat. The bone also provides more connective tissue and better structure to the meat. They have to be cooked a bit longer than boneless pork chops but many agree that the slightly longer wait is worth it.

Made this tonight, very good, used Parmeson bread crumbs , my need to increase the temp on my convection oven next time, not certain why they didn’t quite turn out as crispy as I’d hoped and will also cut the lawry’s just a tad. But will difinitely be making again.

Mine didn’t either but still very good. I think last time I chose bake on my convection oven and we’re trying them again tonight so I think we’re going to try roast for the top and bottom elements to come on at 425. The instructions really don’t tell you what option to choose for convection 🙁

Tried this with boneless chops and herbed bread crumbs but otherwise stuck to the recipe. They were very good And my wife like them too and its a keeper. I had them with some spatzle we got from Aldis and some broccoli.
