How to Make Cornbread in the Air Fryer

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients.
  • Add wet ingredients to the bowl and mix until just combined.
  • Spray a round 8-inch cake pan with cooking spray and pour in the batter. Use a spatula to even out the top, then cover with foil.
  • Place your pan into the air fryer at 360°F for 25- 30 minutes or until fully set. If an inserted toothpick comes out clean, the cornbread is done.
  • Remove from the air fryer and let it cool in the pan slightly before slicing.
  • Serve warm with butter, honey, maple syrup, or jam.

Helpful Notes For Making Cornbread:

  • As you mix, be sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl, so everything is incorporated, but do not overmix the cornbread batter otherwise you’ll end up with tough cornbread.
  • I love using Baker’s Joy nonstick cooking spray for its easy release.
  • Check to make sure the cooking dish you use still allows for airflow around the dish to ensure an evenly cooked and fluffy cornbread.
  • Make this air fryer cornbread extra delicious and top it with jalapeno cheddar butter.

What To Serve With Cornbread Cooked In The Air Fryer:

Air fryer cornbread is an easy recipe to make and its simple ingredients make it the perfect side dish for your favorite meal, but it is also a delicious afternoon snack (or midnight snack, no judgment).

That being said, it is a great addition to almost any meal, especially if you have great BBQ ribs or your favorite chili.

If you’re wanting to keep things simple, drizzle some melted butter over your cornbread and eat it as is.

For a savory snack option, top your cornbread with some sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese (yum!).

How To Store Air Fryer Cornbread:

While there aren’t usually leftovers of Air Fryer Cornbread in my house, you can enjoy it for up to a week after making it!

IN THE FRIDGE: Store leftover cornbread in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

IN THE FREEZER: Wrap tightly in plastic wrap or foil before placing it in a freezer bag or freezer-safe container, and freeze cornbread for up to 3 months.

How To Reheat Cornbread In Air Fryer:

To reheat, simply preheat your air fryer to 325°F and place a piece of cornbread in the basket. Air fry for 2-4 minutes or until warm.

FAQS

Why is my cornbread not fluffy?

Be sure to include baking powder, and don’t overmix the batter. Once it’s poured into the pan, don’t hit the bottom; this will release air bubbles and make the bread denser.

You can also try letting the batter sit in the pan for 15- 20 minutes before placing it in the air fryer to allow the baking powder to activate.

Can you over-mix cornbread?

Yes, you can. Overmixing cornbread can result in a dryer, crumblier cornbread. Instead, mix the batter just until it’s combined, then transfer it to a baking dish.

What kind of cornmeal should I use?

Fine ground yellow or white cornmeal is best for this recipe. Coarsely ground cornmeal will result in a much denser and less fluffy finished product.

Can I use corn flour instead of cornmeal?

If all you have on hand is corn flour, then yes, for sure you can substitute corn flour for cornmeal. Corn flour is a finer texture, and will change the texture of your finished cornbread.

Can I use Jiffy corn muffin mix?

While I am obviously a big fan of homemade cornbread, you can certainly use a box of Jiffy cornbread mix to whip up quickly in your air fryer oven.

Simply follow the instructions on the box. Different brands have different varieties and therefore different instructions.

Can I make cornbread muffins with this recipe?

Absolutely! Making cornbread muffins is a great way to make sure you stick to a small portion of cornbread rather than eating a whole batch.

It’s also the perfect way to create a snack-sized portion or to speed up the cooking process.

Silicone muffin cups are a great option for creating delicious air fryer cornbread muffins, you may just need to be mindful that the exact time to cook these muffins will vary, and you may need to reduce the cooking time by half, checking every 1-2 minutes after this to see if your cornbread muffins are golden brown and cooked perfectly.
